I have added a link that lurkers ans doubters need to listen to. If you ever had any doubts that the Watchtower leadership was responsible for the 1975 debacle, don't be afraid to listen to District Overseer Brother Charles Sinuko's talk he gave in 1967 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

A sucker is born every minute
by Sour Grapes ini was an elder in the 1970's and i was not a big fan of the "stay alive until 75" dogma.
i was looked down upon by the heavy hitters on the body of elders and in time i changed my mind.
i knew of the failed prophecy of 1914 being the end of all times which was repeated for the year 1925...yet i came to believe well maybe this time they've got it right.. with every new watchtower, i combed over every word to find support for my change in my belief that the end was coming in fall of 1975. at the district assembly in 1975, everyone clung onto every word in the final talk.

I was proudly told that I would not have to finish high school. Well, my children finished high school and now my grandchildren have graduated from high school. No doubt the Witnesses today are saying the same thing. History does repeat itself.

It is a shame that so many Witnesses, myself included, wasted so much of the only life we will every have on a religion based upon fairy tales. There is not one shred of evidence, unless you believe in a 2,000 year old book, that there will be a resurection on the earth and that the earth will become a paradise.

I was an elder in the 1970's and I was not a big fan of the "stay alive until 75" dogma. I was looked down upon by the heavy hitters on the body of elders and in time I changed my mind. I knew of the failed prophecy of 1914 being the end of all times which was repeated for the year 1925...yet I came to believe well maybe this time they've got it right.
With every new Watchtower, I combed over every word to find support for my change in my belief that the end was coming in fall of 1975. At the District Assembly in 1975, everyone clung onto every word in the final talk. I started to sense something was wrong when the speaker said "If it be Jehovah's will, there will be District assemlies next year." Very few applaued. I truly expected to hear that next year this time we will be past the great tribulation and will be welcoming back the dead and cleaning up the mess.
Prior to that assembly, I told my Bible students that they would die in a few short years unless they became Jehovah's Witnesses. Earlier as we entered the fateful year of 1975 our congregation grew by leaps and bounds. On many Sundays when I gave talks there was standing room only in the back of the kindom hall. There was an electric charge in the air. Every bit of bad news that was seen on TV was just positive affirmation that we were correct...Armageddon was only months away! The worse the news was the happier we became. When a worldly relative or friend died well at least now they will be resurrected. They had it made...we had to suffer in the great battle just ahead.
I got caught up in the entire lie. Thank god that I had children because I would have most likely quit my job, sold my house and pioneered. Yes a sucker is born every minute. Then in September of 1975 I heard the talk from brother Franz where he started to do some back peddlng stating that if Eve was created three months after Adam's creation then that would push Armegeddon into 1976. If Eve was created a year after Adam's creation then the thousand year of rule of Jesus would be a year after Adam's creation. When he stated we don't know when Eve was created, I knew that we have been duped again. I fell for it even though I knew of the WTBTS many failed prophecies.
Now once again in 2016, we hear the war drums for Armgeddon being beat by the Gibbering Body and even though maybe 50% of those who experienced the "stay alive until 1975" falsehood are stilll alive, they are falling for it again. The end is so close and that we need to simplify our lives and give more to the org. No doubt many realize that the king isn't wearing any clothes, but they dare not say one negative word because they would rather believe in a lie and stay in the congregation rather than believe the truth and be set free.
All of the body of elders from 1975 who told me that I had to readjust my thinking are dead. They believed they would not have to die. Only I am left, When I die than there will no longer be anyone remaining from the body of elders of that time period to tell others that they were lied to and believed in a wet dream.

An elder recently told me the name of the booklet was "Millions Now Living May Never Die." I think that is what he was told when he went to elder's school. It is just so sad how stupid and gullible witlesses are. All they have to do is google the title. I am sure they would say that an apostate changed the title and that it is a fake.

My grandmother thought she would not die and she did. My mother thought she would not die and she did. I thought I would not die and I know I will. In the late 1960's I was accepted into a class for a medical field and the elders talked me out of it since those services would not be needed in Paradise which was just a few short years away. For many years I struggled to take care of my family since I did not have college education and worked two jobs most of my life.
At the meeting today the WT conductor talked about how the youth should not pursue a college education because the end is so near, the same thing I was told 48 years ago.

So, the beautiful plush assembly hall in Indianapolis is sold for a couple of million, which was paid for and refurbished by the JW's from all of the surounding circuits. Now if they decide to build a new assembly hall will the WTBTS tell the brothers, "Don't worry brothers, we got you covered for the money to build a new hall." Or will there be another push for more donations and personal loans to build another assembly hall to be sold after 20 years? And by the way the brothers have to spend their weekends, vacations, and evenings working on building the new hall to replace one that was very nice and paid for. The brothers pay for it, the brothers build it, the WTBTS owns it. Sounds fair to me.
